Analysis of the red magazine.

The purpose of the magazine is to persaude the reader to buy it and inform them about fashion, shopping, beauty, homes and travel.
The masthead is the largest font against a red background as it is called Red, the connotations of red is sexiness and it stands out because it's in a large red box in the top left hand corner.
The puff of red magazine is "for the best things in life" and this suggest that if you read the magazine you would have a better life, and this is put right under the masthead so the second thing your eyes would be drawn to is the puff.
The image on the magazineis of Naomi Watts, its a big medium shot of her looking relaxed, she also stands out because shes wearing blue that matches her eye colour. The connotations of blue are calm and relaxation. Shes a middle aged woman around her early 30's and this would emphasise that the audience is aimed for are middle aged woman.
The coverlines for the image is different to the other coverlines as the font is different. This shows that this is the feature article. All the other coverlines are of the same font but of different sizes and colours. There are two straplines which have the title being called red, "red living" and "red wine club" and these are associated with the puff and the masthead, they are also in pink and pink is usually associated with love. All the strapilines that are written in pink could mean love living love fashion etc.
The fact that one of the straplines is "spring fashion looks" would also go with the image as Naomi is dressed in a very glamourous sparkling blue dress.
The pug is on the right hand corner and stands out as it tells the reader that page to turn to in order to take place in the competition to havea chance of winning none of the other straplines say what page to turn to making it unique.
under the pug the date, price and website is placed so the reader an see it as it is the smallest font on the magazine and is the least important.
on the whole the magazine would sell because at the bottom it sums up what the magazine is about.

Analysis of the DVD cover for meangirls

The function of the DVD cover is to attract an audience so they are drawn into buy and watch the film.
The first thing your eyes would be drawn to on the cover is the masthead and the images of the girls because it stands out on the pink and purple background. The connotations of pink and purple are love, sex and femininity, this easily suggest the genre of the film as being a chick-flick teen movie.
The masthead is the biggest font on the cover and the word mean is written in bold, this would give the audience an idea of what the films story is about, bitchy girls which is seen as being a convention of a teen movie.
The dominant image is of medium long shot of Lindsay Lohan looking at the three girls behind her, as she is the bigger image on the cover is would mean that she I the protagonist and hero of the film. The long shot of the three girls behind her would be the villains, this is also emphasised through the back of the cover where there are three Polaroid pictures with mean, meaner, and meanest written underneath each one.
The way they are dressed could be seen as tarty and being objectified for men/ boys to look at and in teen movies girls are always expected to impress boy which can be seen as a stereotype of teenage girls as well.
Another thing that stands out on the cover are quotes from Cosmo and the times saying that its “teen movie of the year” and “irresistibly funny”, this would attracts it audience as it makes out how good the film is.
Before a person buys a film they would most likely read the blurb on the back and this would appeal to its audience as it is as a diary entry and it seems to be put in a book with pictures stuck on it and this mentions a bit of the narrative. The special features are also put on top of a pink piece of paper with kiss marks on it which could be seen as a love note.
The primary audience it would appeal to are teenagers as most of the characters are teenagers and the secondary audience would be fans of Lindsay Lohan as she is a well known actress in Hollywood.
The text box underneath is important as it gives the age certificate of what the audience it is appropriate for, it also mentions who it is distributed by which is paramount pictures.
Overall the cover attracts its audience and persuades them to buy the film so the cover fulfils it purpose.
