Similarities And Differences Between The Different Audience Theories.

Reception theory= how a text is read by its audience.

Uses and gratification= the audience are active and choose what type of text they want to watch and may have several different reasons for this.

Effects theory= the audience are passive and get manipulated by hegemonic values.

Similarities between all the theories:
* the uses and gratification and reception theory say that the audiences are both active.
* the effects theory and the uses and gratification theories are both very simple.
* the reception and effects theories both talk about hegemonic values but interprate them in a different way.

Differences between all the theories:
* the uses and gratification theory talks about why the audience read a text in a certain way whereas the reception theory talks about the meaning of a text can be interprated in differents ways .
*the theories on uses and gratification and reception talk about an active audience on the other hand the effects theory mainly talks about a passive audience.
*the effects theory talks about how an audiences are manipulated into hegemonic values but the other theories don't.
